Steyning Camera Club News

Chris Packham lecture

Chris Packham and chairlady Penny RichardsonSteyning Camera Club would like to thank all who supported the Chris Packham show that was staged at the Worthing Pavilion Theatre on Monday 12th July 2010. The show was a sell out event with a broad mix of people in the audience all of whom were enthralled with Chris's images, stories and humour. Chris was extremely generous with his time signing photographs, posing for photographs and chatting to fans.

To quote one very appreciative member of the audience:

"We all thought that Chris did a superb job, full of honest insight into his approach to photography, and however lucky he may be to be able to have access to some of the best sites in the world his undoubted passion for his subject area was so very evident. We all walked out of the theatre and felt very proud to be associated with Steyning, so please accept our grateful thanks, and extend it to the committee, for a thoroughly enjoyable event."

This was a fabulously successful event and our sincere thanks go to all who were involved in the organisation to make this show possible.

Margret Preece ARPS DPAGB

We are delighted to announce and congratulate Margret Preece ARPS who has achieved a DPAGB distinction award. Margret is one of four SPF photographers and nineteen nationally who achieved this standard at the Harlow adjudication over the weekend of 24/25 April. Congratulations Margret.

Roll of Honour

Congratulations to all our competition winners. The updated 'Roll of Honour' for 2010 is now available here for download.

ExAv at Steyning

Thanks to everyone who participated, helped and enjoyed the ExAv show on 23rd May 2010. Thanks are due especially to our sponsors Park Cameras, Sony, Epson and Solutions Inc., and to Cliff Carter for his extraordinary effort in gttting the event on the road. Thanks Cliff: it would not have been possible without you.

Fine Sunday weather possibly contrinuted to daytime visitor numbers being lower than hoped, but the exhibition looked superb. And the AV performances in the evening drew great praise.

Shoot Rochester Live

What a good day we had in Rochester for the live shoot, even if the light only improved after we'd eaten in the evening! We had twelve photographers taking part, and congratulations to Ken Woods, who took 1st place with a super sequence of images. All the results to follow.

Thanks also to the team from Upminster Camera Club for your hospitality, especially Dave Wilcox, our organiser and judge, and to Dick Williams, who made up the tech team. Dave made a stop-motion video of our breakfast meet, which you can view on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ0ypwPWWHg

This was a return to Upminster's visit to Shoreham in 2009, which was judged by Ken Scott. You can see all their images of Shoreham here.

Photography in Public Places

Following recent discussions at the club, members might find this document from Mike Williams useful in understanding the current state of concern about photographers' rights and photography in public places.
