A (Mix &) Match made in heaven?
The evening of Monday 17 December saw a packed hall at Upper Beeding for our hosting of the Mix & Match Competition against Southwick CC and Worthing CC.
As is usual with this annual event, the barracking of the judge often reached a crescendo as each team tried to ‘persuade’ him that their image was a perfect match, and those of the other teams were rubbish. Our judge for the evening was Paul O’Toole, who managed to entertain the unruly mob with a mixture of great diplomatic skill peppered with highly controversial decisions!
In the end, it was Worthing CC who came out on top, with 45 points. Steyning, as the perfect hosts, decided they shouldn’t really try to win, so came in a carefully-calculated second with 41 points, followed very closely by Southwick CC with 40 points.
The Charity Raffle was very successful, with 1,000 tickets being bought before the evening had even started. The chosen charity this year was Blood Runners (SERV Sussex), who provide a free transport service to Sussex hospitals and Health Service trusts for urgently-need medical items such as blood and plasma. The raffle raised £210 for them. Our grateful thanks to Babs Lawrence for organising such a successful fund-raising draw for this deserving charity.
The Club has decided to top up the raffle takings to £250, and a cheque for this amount will be passed to representatives from Blood Runners in a presentation at the Club on 21 January.
The Club certainly went out on a ‘high’ this year. It only remains to wish all of our members, and all lovers of photography in our community, a Very Happy Christmas and a successful and fulfilling 2019.
