Steyning Camera Club congratulates Wendy Ball
Steyning Camera Club are proud to announce that Wendy Ball’s photograph of a Sparrowhawk and a Collared Dove, entitled ‘Murder in the Garden’ and taken in her own garden, has been Highly Commended in the Urban section of the British Wildlife Photographer Awards 2017. This week Wendy and Michael went to the opening of the touring exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London’s Pall Mall. Wendy’s photograph will feature in the 2017 book and the touring exhibition now open at the Mall Galleries.
Earlier this year Wendy’s photograph of a Heron entitled ‘That sinking feeling’ taken on the Isle of Mull was also Highly Commended, but this time it was in the ‘Wildlife Behaviour ‘ section of the Scottish Wildlife Photographer Awards.
This is the description that Wendy wrote to accompany her Sparrowhawk image: “Although we have a large variety of birds visiting the feeders in my garden, such visits from Sparrowhawks are rare. As I was about to leave home I saw this sparrowhawk endeavouring to fly with a freshly killed Collared Dove. I ran upstairs to get my camera fully expecting the bird to have vanished upon my return. However I was just able to capture this image before it finally left with its prize.”
This is the description that Wendy wrote to accompany her Heron image:
“I had noticed this Heron using the boat as a roost site in the harbour at Craignure, Isle of Mull, several times. Early one morning, as we were making our way down to the shore to see if we could see the resident otter, everything slotted into place. The state of the tide, the light and the waking heron were perfect.
Wendy’s image is featured in the Scottish nature Photography Awards Portfolio 2016 and the Winners’ Exhibition is currently on tour.
Arrangements will be made for a club visit to see the British Wildlife Photography exhibition in London or elsewhere in the tour.
